Patch planning guide

Patch backing choices: start with the receiving surface

Compare sewn, heat-applied, removable and adhesive attachment decisions.

Backing selection is a compatibility decision, not merely a menu label. The receiving material, removability, care requirements and application method can matter more than the patch face. Begin with the object being decorated and narrow the available choices before requesting a production proof.

Permanent placement versus removable identity

Sew-on attachment and compatible removable systems solve different problems. A design intended to stay on a garment may prioritize stitch clearance, while a removable identifier needs an appropriate receiving surface. Clarify whether a separate matching loop piece is needed rather than assuming a hook-backed patch attaches to any textile.

Heat application needs a complete combination

An iron-on option is not a universal instruction to apply heat to every garment or patch type. Fabric coatings, construction and care limitations can affect suitability. Request instructions for the quoted combination and avoid treating a photograph of another garment as proof that your own item is compatible.

Adhesive is not a durability guarantee

An adhesive option must be evaluated for its intended surface, duration and environment. Do not assume it replaces sewing or tolerates repeated washing. Explain whether the patch is for a short-lived display, a garment or equipment so the attachment discussion addresses the real use.

Write a backing line in the specification

Record the selected backing, any receiving piece, application responsibility and relevant care limits next to the dimensions. Keep this line with the approved proof. A reorder with the same artwork but a different garment may need a different backing decision.

Proof, production and shipping

Standard turnaround is approximately 10 business days, including production and shipping, starting from the next business day after final mockup approval. Priority Rush turnaround is approximately 7 business days, including production and shipping, starting from the next business day after final mockup approval.

Quantities from 1 are available. Quantities 1–10 use the existing ten-piece BASE production charge; per-piece add-ons use the actual ordered quantity.

Quotation shipping is free at $120 or more; otherwise it is $35. Confirm the destination and schedule in your quote.

Questions for this project

Does choosing a backing guarantee compatibility with my garment?

Compatibility depends on the full material and application combination. Provide the receiving fabric and care requirements and confirm the quoted instructions.

What is easy to forget with removable patches?

Specify both the patch-side attachment and the receiving surface. Confirm whether a matching loop piece is already present or is part of the request.
